Just a few meters from the majestic Frederick's cathedral-in the center of Altamura-“Il nido dei falchi” boasts a fantastic location in the heart of the historic village of one of the oldest cities in Apulia and offers the esperinza of living in history.

Il Nido dei Falchi is a B&B just a few meters from the Cathedral of Altamura, the town at the center of the Alta Murgia rural park, an area rich in history, nature and food and wine traditions. It only takes a short drive to visit the amazing Castel Del Monte, Matera the European Capital of Culture 2019, the world-famous trulli of Alberobello and the magnificent Salento. In Altamura, world famous for its bread, you can enjoy the ancient flavors of the Mediterranean tradition.

Suggestive spaces steeped in Frederick's legend, where the ancient local terracotta was recovered, with its warm hues, from yellow ochre to olive green; the colored grits and marbles, the vaults, arches and tuff details.

The rooms are named after the falcons trainable for hunting, so beloved by Frederick II, who even dedicated a treatise to them, “De ars venandi cum avibus.”

The plasters and walls are made of natural lime, to make the environment healthier and more comfortable.

In many of the rooms, and in the cloisters that surround them, the original rainwater wells are preserved, with terracotta collection pipes. The doors and windows are, for the most part, still the original painted wooden ones, restored with passion and painstaking care by experienced local craftsmen.
